Webinar – Part 2: CBCT Findings That Matter in Implant Dentistry

Implant CBCT scans often reveal more than the proposed implant site. Clinicians may encounter normal anatomic variations, residual dental disease, sinus changes, healing extraction sites, and other incidental findings that can influence implant treatment planning.

This course provides a practical, implant-focused approach to recognizing and evaluating these findings without attempting to turn the clinician into an oral radiologist. Participants will learn how to distinguish common variations from findings that deserve additional attention, how to approach an unexpected radiographic finding systematically, and when a finding may warrant modification or delay of implant treatment, additional evaluation, or referral.

The goal of this course is to improve clinicians’ confidence in recognizing CBCT findings that may be relevant to implant treatment and determining when those findings should influence the treatment plan or require further evaluation.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• Differentiate common anatomic variations from findings that may represent abnormality or disease.
• Apply a simple, systematic approach when evaluating an unexpected CBCT finding.
• Recognize common findings relevant to implant dentistry, including periapical pathology, residual infection, extraction-site healing, sinus changes, retained roots, and common radiolucent or radiopaque findings.
• Evaluate whether a CBCT finding may affect the timing, planning, or delivery of implant treatment.
• Identify findings that may warrant additional imaging, further investigation, or referral to an appropriate specialist.
